Marilyn Monroe

I love Marilyn Monroe because she exuded sexy before being sexy was acceptable. While June Cleaver flaunted a painfully domesticated image of what a woman should aspire to be, we had Marilyn: in all of her curvy, pouty, blonde and red-lipped splendor. While women were supposed to want to be sexy, it was a forbidden practice. Sexuality and femininity are two of the strongest qualities a women can own. What she does with them and other qualities she couples with those mold the person in which she becomes.
Over the weekend I watched the movie, “My Week with Marilyn” based on a book by Colin Clark who claims to have had a connection/fling with Marilyn during the production phase of a film.  The movie received rave reviews to which, I furrow my brows in confusion.  This movie for lack of a better phrase, pissed me off.
My expectation was to gain an insight on a Marilyn that no one knew.  The movie seemed like the fantasies of a lowly stagehand who was completely enamored with Marilyn who probably so much as glanced at him in truth. Marilyn was fucking John F Kennedy for goodness sakes, yet I am to believe that this out of work 20-something props guy swooped in and rescued Marilyn from herself.
The film made Marilyn seem childlike, airheaded, unsure and unaware of herself which I find completely unbelievable. Marilyn definitely knew what a force she was to the world. She was not this shy, wall flower who needed someone to shield her from fans.
In short, I have two words for Colin Clark: You wish!
